Here at Hearthstone, Alan Anderson, senior project designer, has shown extreme loyalty and has been a vital piece to our company for over 30 years.
However, when he’s not designing timber-frame and log homes for customers, he spends his time volunteering as a chairman on the board of directors for Lakeway Area Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit, faith-based housing ministry founded in 1976 that strives to provide stable and reliable houses for local families in need.
As a chair member, Alan oversees the budget and fundraising for the organization, as well as making sure the projects are always heading in the right direction. Having been a recipient of a kidney transplant for 30 years, Alan decided in 2010 that it was time to give back to the community as a “thank you” for his second chance at life. He decided Habitat for Humanity would be the perfect fit because of the “similarity to his long-time profession here at Hearthstone.” He sought the volunteer work through his church, which allowed him to make his way all the way up to the Board of Directors.
Now in his 5th year of serving on the board, Alan expresses that his time spent volunteering is just as rewarding as ever, stating, “Habitat is constantly giving back to people, so seeing the smiles put on others’ faces allows me to reap the benefits of hard work.” As far as Hearthstone goes, Alan says that he loves designing and building beautiful homes for people, whether it be at work or volunteering.
