Built in 2001 as a second home for a family in South Florida, this lodge is one-of-a-kind.
The Big Sky, Montana Lodge client, and his family came across Hearthstone after staying at their friend’s Hearthstone log home in nearby Gallatin Gateway, Montana. This particular area in Montana is widely known for its world-class skiing, trout fishing, and wildlife which influences the style and personal touches, interior, and exterior, to this family vacation lodge. Not only is the lodge beautiful and eye-catching, but the natural view provided by the Montana mountains and lakes are beautiful and eye-catching as well. Amazing landscapes surround the lodge that resides in a camping area, too. This private camping area is popularly known as Camp Arrowhead.
A lot of collaboration took place with this unique design. The collaborators included the client, his builder, and our Hearthstone design staff. Some of the design details are an 8″ thick x 21″ wide live-edge Timberlake wall logs for the main house, 8 x 12 Traditional logs for the guest house, and a Timber Frame for the garage/bonus room. All three were creatively blended together to create a beautiful vacation lodge that also includes decorations with the client’s world travels and mementos intertwined throughout the entire home. Many of these special pieces can be seen in the kitchen/dining room area and the living/family room area such as the paintings, chandeliers, and harvested wildlife mounted on the walls.
There are some specific requirements for this lodge’s construction and design due to location and weather conditions of the Montana area. The requirements are large snow loads, seismic zone (3), and extra roof insulation with a “cold roof” detail for this lodge. This can be best seen in the master bedroom of the home. The open design and layout help the special details come to life. The vision of this timeless design took a lot of teamwork. It is an honor that the Big Sky, Montana Lodge client and his family remain such close friends with the Hearthstone family to this day.
